MVA Takes Out 2 Electrical Poles

At around 0540 the WWFD responded to 500 block West Glenwood for a report of an MVC. Engine Co. 21 arrived to find a single car accident with 2 utility poles with catastrophic damage and power out to the 500 block of Magnolia to Glenwood. Crews checked homes in the area. Firefighters remained on scene. MVC under investigation by the West Wildwood PD. Assisting on scene was West Wildwood DPW & Wildwood FD (EMS) Fortunately no injuries were reported. Power was restored around 3pm.

Firefighters Battle 2 Alarm House Blaze

Firefighters responded to a dwelling fire at 636 W Poplar Avenue in the Borough of West Wildwood March 23 at 7:32 p.m. On arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from a two and a half story residential property. Firefighters entered the dwelling and began extinguishing fire found on the second and third floors. The building was searched and found to be unoccupied at the time of the incident. Firefighters operated on scene for well over three hours, chasing pockets of fire in concealed areas in walls and ceilings. There were no injuries reported. Units operating on scene were West Wildwood Engine 21, Engine 21-1, Wildwood Engine 38, Tower 51, Engine 37, North Wildwood Engine 2, Rio Grande Fire, and Rio Grande EMS were on scene as well. The fire remains under investigation by the CMC Fire Marshal’s Office.

We are an all-volunteer company located in southern Cape May County, NJ. It borders North Wildwood City, Wildwood City, and Middle Township. West Wildwood is a small island connected to the City of Wildwood by a two-lane bridge. We serve an island resort community of 500 year-round residents and several marinas and as many as 10,000 seasonal residents and summer visitors. Our twenty-six active members man two engines (E21, E21-1), one mini-attack pumper (B21), one utility vehicle (U21) and one 14-ft. inflatable boat (M21) to provide first inital emergency service to the Borough of West Wildwood. We provide automatic mutual aid to the City of Wildwood for all reported fires. We also provided 1st due with Marine 21 (M21) to Shawcrest with Erma Vol. Fire Dept for reported boat fires
